After receiving critical acclaim at a Venice Film Festival premiere and American cinema release last September, Pearl finally makes it to British cinemas and the Student Cinema will be showing it this term! Pearl is a prequel to the 2022 horror film X and serves as the origin story for the titular villain. Mia Goth played both Pearl (the elderly antagonist) and Maxine (the young protagonist, who she will play again in a sequel to X) in X, but this time round she plays Pearl as a young movie star aiming for success. Goth received critical acclaim for her performance in X, as well as Ti West’s direction and screenplay also receiving praise. The film pays homage to both classical horror movies, and Hollywood’s technicolour Golden Age. Come and discover the origin story of a new iconic horror villain at the Student Cinema this term!
