Beau Is Afraid
From his darkest fears come the greatest adventure
Described as a "zonky nightmare comedy", when the trailer for Beau is Afraid from A24 released in January this year, no one knew what quite to expect from the same director as 2018's Hereditary and 2019's Midsommar (Ari Aster).
What I can only describe as The Truman Show meets Wizard of Oz - the plot seems to follow the socially-anxious Beau (Joaquin Phoenix), who in his failed attempt to go visit his elderly mother, gets caught in a wild, chaotic and disturbing adventure of self-discovery.
From the looks of it, Beau is Afraid is going to be creative, weird, and unsettling in all the ways a "zonky nightmare comedy" (note: not a horror film!) can be. We can anticipate an amazing performance in the leading role from Joaquin Phoenix (Joker, Gladiator) and being a film that has been 9 years in the making (based on one of Ari Aster's early short films) Beau is Afraid is certainly going to be the film everyone will be talking about.
