Evil Dead Rise
Mummy loves you to death.
The Evil Dead franchise has been through thick and thin - from Sam Raimi's (director of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man series) disturbing B-movie debut to a 2013 remake's pure horror and gore. This time, Evil Dead Rise seeks to balance the tone of the first films with the blood and guts of its latest iteration.
The story follows Beth (Lily Sullivan), visiting her sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) and her three children who live in a high-rise apartment. However, the discovery of an ancient book in the depths of the building gives rise (pun unintended) to bloodthirsty demons who are bent on turning the family's lives into a living nightmare.
Don't be put off if this is your first Evil Dead film - in fact, I encourage it! Originally going to be put to streaming but given a theatrical release instead (a similar backstory to last year's hit horror film Smile), Evil Dead Rise seems like it will be a good and gory time, with all the scares you need, and a treat to fans of the original.
