Review:

The AllNighter is a well loved WSC tradition. Coming to the AllNighter in my second year is what inspired me to get involved and join the crew. And what better way to mark an occasion as special as our 50th year on campus than with everybody’s favourite film franchise – SHREK!

Much like ogres, AllNighters have layers, so here’s the breakdown of what we’ve selected: Firstly, the iconic origin story. The green monster film that launched a thousand sequels. Shrek 2 blows the notion that such sequels are never as good out of the (swampy) water, expanding the fairytale world in which our beloved ogre and friends reside. We’ll be bringing you these two classics from rare 35mm archive prints – yes, really(!) – from the collections of the lovely folks at the Cinema Museum. Gotta be worth it just to say you’ve seen actual Shrek on film, right? Then, we move on to Shrek the Third, another standout instalment which includes a rather iconic princess scene which I still adore to this day. Like most epic franchises, Shrek Forever After sees Shrek tamper with the fabric of reality and scramble to restore the life we have all become invested in. Finally, we’re ending the night with the highly rated Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the latest addition to the SCU (Shrek Cinematic Universe, if you couldn’t already guess).

Whether you’re coming from Far Far Away (Westwood), or our local swamp (Bluebell), stock up on snacks and blankets and head to L3 for a night full of Shrek-citement!
