Review:

This reboot of the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series promises to breathe new life into the series, utilising a unique 3D art style distinct from all previous TMNT films, and focussing on the key teenage aspect of turtles. This return to basics through focussing on a central theme of the series allows the film to feel fresh as it offers a new look at this aspect through taking inspiration from classic coming of age films, whilst simultaneously maintaining that classic TMNT vibe that will have fans of the classic films and TV series loving every second. The strongly stylised animation here is the key stand out aspect of the film, with the aim of the art style being to closely match the concept art and the hand drawn style of rough sketches which often have exaggerated features. To emulate a 2D hand drawn style in 3D computer generated imagery is certainly not an easy task, but this film manages it perfectly and it results in a unique style of animation which makes this a truly beautiful watch.

The film is based around the teenage mutant ninja turtles, consisting of Michelangelo (Shamon Brown Jr.), Donatello (Micah Abbey), Leonardo (Nicolas Cantu), and Raphael (Brady Noon), who are parented and trained by Master Splinter (Jackie Chan). The story follows the brothers as they strike out after being sheltered for many years and attempt to make it in the human world as normal teenagers. They try to prove themselves to the world through heroic vigilante acts, and through this they find out about a mysterious crime syndicate which they vow to bring down. However, they are challenged in their quest when they are attacked by an army of mutants and must fight their way through to bring those behind the attack to justice.

With plenty of excellent action scenes in this beautiful art style, every strike and kick is an absolute joy to watch as they are animated perfectly. Along with great performances from all the voice actors which deliver the well written and at times hilarious script excellently, it means that this is one of those rare films which covers every aspect in an entertaining and unique way. So, you are sure to love every aspect which will make every second of the film a thrilling experience.
