Review:

“Hello. Hello, hello?”

I’ve been waiting for this one, people. Rumours since the first game was dropped, a book trilogy, more games, the short stories, MatPat’s theories, FNAF World, the logbook, Markiplier’s lucky flannel, more short stories, twitter pictures from Blumhouse (that were mysteriously removed) and even a brand spanking new open world game in a mega pizzaplex … but no, finally, finally, it’s time. This is going to heal my inner 15-year-old, right?

If you’ve been living under a rock, Five Nights at Freddy’s has had a grip on the indie gaming scene since 2014, and it’s been instrumental in making some gaming YouTubers’ (see the aforementioned Markiplier and MatPat) careers.. As the game’s popularity grew, so did the production of a sequel, which has been through a turbulent time, with changing hands in both script and production company. Finally, it's almost here, and I will be the first to shove kids out of the way to see the Bite of 87 on the big screen.

The film promises juicy roles for its stars, Josh Hutcherson (presumably as the security guard, Mike Schmidt) and Matthew Lillard (as The Purple Guy, William Afton). The trailer showcases that spunky 80s-esque aesthetic with a VHS advert chopping in and out of the more stylistic in-the-action sequences, which is a great look. I’m personally hoping it will be a bit gorier than the trailer seems to suggest (I mean, the games are about child murder, so it’s not something I’m expecting to be rated U). Though my excitement is palpable, I’m actually… somewhat hesitant that this will live up to the hype that has followed the potential film adaptation for nearly a decade. But I’m sure as hell going to be watching it on release – I just hope it’s a good watch!
