Review:

Priscilla can perhaps be seen as a less exuberant counterpart to Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, offering an insight into the same relationship, but from the perspective of Elvis Presley’s wife, Priscilla. Whilst Elvis couldn’t resist indulging in heavily stylised visuals, a star-studded soundtrack and a broadly ‘hero vs villain’ story, Priscilla promises a more grounded portrayal of one of the most prominent celebrity relationships, from the inside. In contrast to some celebrity biopics, this has the backing of Priscilla Presley herself, who wrote the memoir upon which the film is based and served as an executive producer. However, her daughter Lisa Marie wrote to director Sofia Coppola to say she disliked the script’s portrayal of her father. In her reply, Coppola said that she depicted him with “sensitivity and complexity”; watch it and decide for yourself!
