Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World
An overworked and underpaid production assistant drives around Bucharest to shoot the casting for a workplace safety video commissioned by a multinational company.
Expect a lot from this film. Although, where to begin with setting up your expectations is a tricky one. This one is a hard sell, it’s long and it’s weird and it’s experimental; not exactly the high-concept ‘shark terrorises people on beach’ that usually grips moviegoers. If one thing is going to convince you to see this, it’s that the film is absolutely hilarious: a satire of modern life, featuring ironic TikToks, cut-up footage from a 1980s arthouse Romanian film, a cameo from notorious critically hated German filmmaker Uwe Boll, a lot of road rage, and the production of an absurd work-safety video… but also many more ridiculous episodes. Give it a try – when we saw it, our outgoing president fell asleep, but our treasurer spent ten minutes after the film ended laughing so hysterically that a random audience member fell into hysterics with him. I’m not sure what that tells you, but I did love this film and, if you can brave it, I’m sure many of you will too.
