Anyone But You
They only look like the perfect couple.
A fun and hilarious watch, Anyone But You reminds me of some of the American rom coms of the 2000s and 2010s - the likes of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Sleeping with Other People. Truly a breath of fresh air, with its raunchy and off-beat humour laced with punchy dialogue, physical comedy and laughter-inducing motifs, this film is an immersive watch to give your brain a break.
Bea (Sweeney) is a no-nonsense young woman who is a bit confused about her future, not quite living up to her parents’ expectations. When her path crosses with Ben (Powell), there are sparks, first of connection, then of anger and eventually…well, you’ll find out when you watch it!
After a misunderstanding, Bea and Ben find themselves in Sydney – which might make you chuckle since Sydney (actress) is now in Sydney (city) – for their friend's wedding and boy, oh boy, do they fight.
Not only is there romance and laughter, but we also get a great deal of depth into our protagonists and why they might just belong together. The chemistry is very convincing as Sweeney and Powell play off each other excellently and have great comedic timing to boot. If that’s not enough, you also get a rivals-to-lovers dynamic with green flags and no toxicity, as both characters learn to accept and grow from their flaws. You know a romcom is good when it promotes healthy relationships and self-improvement.
If you’re into something that makes you laugh but also swoon and not think too much, consider watching this one. It won’t disappoint.
