The Queen of My Dreams
60s mod meets Lollywood in this Canadian/Pakistani fusion of a vibrant exploration of the strained bond between mother and daughter and their vastly different coming-of-age stories, one in 1960s Karachi and the other in modern Toronto. From the trailer alone this film exudes energy and colour, blending two opposite cultures in such a creative and inspired way. The obvious inspiration from the golden age of Bollywood and Lollywood film is guaranteed to provide a nostalgic and exciting viewing experience. A bold feature film debut from writer and director Fawzia Mirza, The Queen of My Dreams has certainly made an impression, gaining 5 Canadian Screen Award nominations for best lead performance in a drama film for Amrit Kaur, best adapted screenplay, best art direction/production design, best original score and best original song.
