The Outrun
The Outrun is a story of reconciliation and recuperation; an ode to the restorative power of nature.
We follow a vibrantly-haired, deeply-jaded Rona (Ronan) as she struggles to navigate an all-too-familiar landscape far away from the easy distractions of London’s urban hubbub. Returning home to the Isles of Orkney following rough times on the mainland, we witness Rona wrestle with memories of her troubled childhood. The trailer captures perfectly this turbulent tale from city to sea, scenes of drug-fuelled encounters in the capital’s clubs a world away from Orkney’s waves and wind-whipped trees. Amy Liptrot’s memoir-travelogue – the real-life source of this story – has been heralded by critics for its raw vulnerability and lyrical introspection, and if early reviews of the film are proven to be true, Rona’s journey from knife-edge to ocean-side is cathartic, cleansing, and may help you, too.
