Longlegs
Say your prayers.
Nicolas Cage (though barely recognisable in his freakish garb) stars as the titular, satanic serial killer in this truly chilling horror that brings you a sense of unnerving nightmarish evil. We follow FBI agent Lee Harker as she’s assigned to a string of unsolved murder-suicides involving a killer that leaves no evidence of ever being physically present for the crimes, but all linked by encrypted notes signed from someone named “Longlegs”. Cage’s unsettling performance feels very different from any of his other roles and captivates you even though his face is withheld from the audience for a good portion of the film. This makes for a slow-burning, tension-filled first act which only adds to the shock when it all comes to a head, and it’s definitely worth the wait. The promotional lead-up really added to my overall enjoyment and anticipation for Longlegs. The cryptic clips, hidden face of Nicolas Cage, and eerie wailing behind the trailers made me desperate to get a ticket. I’d recommend going blind into this one, so steer clear of any spoilers!
