Maria

“Starring Angelina Jolie” should be enough to have you hooked — but, if not, maybe the glamorous world of 1970s Paris will do the job. Fame, however, is not all that it’s made out to be, as we see in Maria, a psychological drama following the life of esteemed opera singer Maria Callas. Succeeding Larraín’s widely-acclaimed Spencer in 2021, Maria has already received a round of applause from early reviewers, and so too has Jolie — who is said to have trained for seven months as a singer for the final few scenes. Maria is a tender ode to Callas’ swan song, and you should definitely keep an eye out for it at WSC.
