Based on an old cartoon strip, Casper is an engaging story about "The Friendliest Ghost in Town." Casper lives in an old mansion with his three ghostly uncles, Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso, who combine to make his life a bit of a misery. Casper's really alone and just wants a friend to talk to... He takes matters into his own hands when he sees ghost psychologist Dr. James Harvey (Pullman) and his daughter (Ricci) on TV, and arranges for them to come and live with him. But whilst he tries to make friends with daughter Cat, dad has the unenviable task of trying to persuade the ghosts to leave the house so Carrigan Crittenden (!) and Dibs (Moriarty and Idle) can redevelop the site. Will Casper make his friend and keep the house?
O.K., this film's aimed at the kids, but who cares? Students need a laugh as much as anyone, and the jokes here aren't always aimed at the kids... The effects for the ghosts are exceptional, and they'll quickly draw you into a charming little tale that'll leave you with that nice warm feeling inside as you leave L3. One of those films to snuggle up to that significant other in.
