Review:

Imagien that you have no life. Imagine that you find it almost impossivle to speak to members of the opposite sex. Imagine that you're still a nice person despite that. So what do you do when you find an ancient mystic mask that unleasehes it's wearer's true personallity? Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey), hero of this film, put it like this:

"P, A, R, T... Why? Cause I GOTTA!"

When Stanley, a lowly employee at a ciry back, finds the mask and puts it on, his life instantly changes, and we're not just talking about a green face and a bright yellow zoot suit. No, this is serious, as the gang planning to hold up the bank find when they arrive moments after The Mask emerges, spinning and mad, from the vault, carrying a huge amount of cash to finance his partying. From that moment on, The Mask has a new problem: the mob. Who don't take kindly to "superheroes" trying to muscle in.

Jim Carrey, following on form his success in Ace Ventura - Pet Detective, has gone absolutely mas again and made a film that is guaranteed to have the audience not merely falling off their seats but actively plunging down the stairs. This time, though, he's not the only comic genius on hand, for the programmers at Industrial Light and Magic have done an incredible job of bringing the comic book character to life; the Mask turns into a wolf, imitating the old Tex Avery cartoons perfectly, his heart beats out of his chest, and he does more strange, incredible, and increasingly impossible things throughout the movie.

It's the silliest and funniest comedy this term, and the only one with a worthwhile pet dog...

Paul Hardy.
