IT Meeting
Thursday 25th Nov, 19:30, H3.45
1. Welcome and Apologies
Present: Edward, Andrew, Scott, Adam, Chris, Tim, Ross, Vladimir, Emma
Apologies: Matt W, Hao (late), Alex (in L3)
2. Update from Project Heads
* Slideshow PC
o Emma was taught how bits work.
o It’s now built, installed, configured and re-configured (thanks Andy!).
o We can now play more videos before shows, should Exec wish to.
o It has had its allowance of 1 explosion, and a pop
* Server Techs
o Tim has written a (long) list of things which need to be done.
o Adam and Chris are allocating jobs to peeps.
o They are going to do lots soon.
o Everyone now has usernames and accounts.
* Website Dev
o (Edward received a phone call from Hao, lost).
o Matt can’t attend (and sent apologies) because he missed his train.
o Nobody has had a chance to fiddle.
o Edward demonstrated WinSCP and how to checkout / commit / update the BZR Repository.
o Matt to allocate templates and classes for people to work on urgently.
* Touchscreens
o Nothing has progressed on this point.
o Andrew intends to have them installed by the end of the Christmas holidays, cable depending.
3. Offsite Backups
* Tim redirected the discussion to ‘Onsite backups’.
o Onsite backups
* They’ve gone. We’ll make some more.
* Either Rank or Village will be used for Onsite backups, to be configured as urgently as Tim’s schedule allows.
* We were encouraged to keep an eye out for Dolby.
o Back on topic...
* We require another 1TB drive.
* We discussed operating when there had been a fire – this involves puppets.
* Onsite backups will be prioritised, using the offsite backups’ 1TB drive until the replacement arrives.
* Tim delegates Backups to the Server Group.
4. Documentation
* We shall make some, and be better at doing so.
* Please put documentation on the wiki – although something simple on the server rack door (laminated!) would be good for the servers.
* The Wiki will have a “Document me!” page (now made).
* Edward knows Richard has been working on a Specification for the new website – we found it on the wiki and general happiness ensued.
5. AOB
* Edward demonstrated the templating wiki page.
* Andrew received a reply from IT Services about an SSL certificate. We are currently being vetted that we are a ‘real’ society. Edward will chase Pam/Andy White to make sure a prompt reply is received.
o We are required to comply with JANET Regulations (for the certificate and servers on the JANET network).
* Matt is going to arrange Trac being used for the development of the new website.
* An enquiry about whether we are still going to make videos was heard; the IT Officer will consult the Marketing Coordinator again.
