IT Meeting @ 2011-01-26 16:55:00

IT MEETING
26/1/11
H3.58

16:55pm (ten minutes late as room bizarre)

Present: Edward, Richard, Stanimir, Adam, Emma, Hao, Chris, Matt, Tim, Andrew (late w/apologies)
Apologies: Scott

1) Welcome and Apologies

Edward welcomed everybody to the IT meeting, and congratulated on finding the room in the Humanities Annex.

2) Project Update: New Website

Templates were delegated by Edward and Matt to Hao, Stanimir and Richard.
The next IT meeting will be (provisionally) Week 5 or 6, so it'd be nice to have them by then.
Problems to be emailed to Matt, or to the mailing list if Matt is unavailable.
Edward reminded Matt that he was going to give fortnightly updates to Exec.

3) Project Update: Servers & Documentation

Edward thanked those who'd worked to restore the servers post Christmas electrical maintenance.
Concerns were raised over how the servers did not come back up automatically, and that some tlc was needed first.
The server team are going to arrange a meeting between themselves and resolve this.
It will then be tested, on an appropriate (no imminent show) occasion to verify it works.

Sony is currently working, but only boots approximately 20% of the time, and is hence very unreliable.
We are going to look into salvaging some old RM components into a new case.
Andrew is going to enquire as to the availability of parts.

We are going to use Rank to perform onsite backups, which is to be recovered from Humanities.
Offsite backups requires another 1TB drive.

4) Project Update: Touchscreens

These are in the Exec Office, uninstalled.
Andrew is looking for the appropriate cable to install them with, which is minimally obtrusive.
The desired cable would allow the case to close completely - an issue with the current implementation.

5) Concourse Network Port

We need IT Services to repatch this port, and as we have used a lot of favours with them recently, and want some more, unless there's a problem it'd be more (overall) beneficial to make do.

6) AOB

a) SSL Certificates
We have been able to get secure certificates for the website, allowing secure sign ins. This means we can move on towards single-sign ins for WSC accounts.

b) WarwickStudentCinema.com
Edward raised whether IT thought it would be beneficial to have warwickstudentcinema.com. Consensus was No.

c) iWarwick App
It was suggested that we contact the creator of an iWarwick app for iPhone, so that cinema times could be included in the application. It was observed we are already on Warwick's new Start page, but it was clarified that this was not an ITS developed application.

d) Mailing List Spam
Some discussion occurred over this, and what got through and didn't.
We discovered that all @warwick.ac.uk mail got through, and as spam was replicating warwick (and filmsoc) email addresses, this should be removed, as soon as possible.
The idea of black listing email addresses was suggested, and will be looked into.
