SHOW REPORTS

The Killers
Edward (Qualification)
A&Ts stability issue.
R1 film may have cut a little bit of water noise off with too quick changeover at end - had been a short R1 so was a bit jumpy as didn't have much time post-converting P1.
Focussing difficult on P1 Scope (as usual).
Film horrible edge damage at end of reels - stability reduced during these parts.
No Footers provided with film - own used and removed afterwards.

Knight and Day
Rachel and Shirley
First c/o missed by 1s, not really noticeable to audience.

House of Flying Daggers
Tim K. and Neil
Fine. Centre sub unplugged.

The Expendables (Early)
Omar (Qualification)
Xwide lens accidentally used with anamorphic – corrected asap.
Missed part of sound trailer – issue with run buttons
Focus issue on both projectors

The Expendables (Late)
Alex and Tristan
No problems.

SALT (Early)
Rachel and Yeng
Ok but a c/o was difficult due to unusual spacing between cue dots – picture was ok during the change but there was a sound issue.
SDDS worked reasonably well on both projectors.

SALT (Late)
Nikita and Yolanda
Ads OOF a bit - slowly adjusted but still a bit soft according to the DM. C/O R1-2 OOF - adjusted, and tweaked again during R4. C/O shutter decided to be a little twit and come down for a few seconds during R4 - about 3-4 secs of black on screen. C/O R4-5 - Yolanda missed the first set of cue dots, so there was 1sec of black on screen.

Any Other Business
1. Technical:
Bell Theatre, Future Projections, Sound Associates and Sound Tech all currently being contacted for speaker parts and Projector serving and EQ contracts.
2. Entering data in Making Up Book and Trainee’s books
Please write legibly so that others can read it
- Use block capitals if necessary
- Go on an extra page if you need space and then staple in
- Please fill in the sound trailer tracking boxes – we don’t want to loose any as replacements are almost impossible.
3. 70mm in the summer term
Films officer will investigate this – will be an excellent opportunity for more 70mm training.
4. Century of Cinema (Tuesdays in term 2)
- First film of term is The General, a 1920s film that was reprinted recently with a piano soundtrack.
- Most classics are reprints within the last 10 years. However Saturday Night Fever and Raging Bull might be originals
- Please do not hesitate to ask for help if projecting a classic as they will provide valuable learning experiences.
5. Next terms trailers are here and sorted into correct draws. Some trailers in the archive need to be collected.
6. All films and ads must be in the dump by the end of week 10 to ensure NFT pick up.
7. Please be aware that there may be Christmas holiday socials so keep an eye on your enboxes.

***Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year***

END OF TERM SHOW REPORTS

Love Actually
Tim D. and Kath

Start of R1 was very oof - a quick check revealed the lens had slipped
out (Kath had turned the screw to the mark but it was a couple of turns
too loose). Thankfully the anamorphic saved the lens from falling to the
floor and it was corrected by the cert.

Played in DTS for R1 which seemed fine, dropped to SRD on R2 (supposedly
it was picking up timecode, but not reading the disc), DTS picked up
again on R3 but then dropped on a couple of occasions. At which point I
turned off the DTS unit and everything suddenly went very quiet - just
happened to coincide exactly with a scene change! The discs were from
our archive, but I forgot to test them to see if they played without
timecode.

C/O 6-7 had a fraction of foot on screen - was teaching Kath to pause
for the 20 frame footers but was slightly too late on this one.

Forgot to down and mute at the end, but the curtain cue was good.

Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Owen and Tim G.
- I'm gonna put my hands up and admit that I bargained with Tim to project R2 whilst he did the ads change backstage. Unfortunately, I cocked it up: forgot to swing the anamorphic round, so after ~2s of the squashed image on screen, I dowsed, quickly swung round, and then opened again, all within ~8s. Never again...
- C/O 3->4 Tim missed the first set of SBRs, so only started up after I yelled go at him, so downed and muted for second set, then reselected ~3s later once the splice went through. Looked very clean on screen :)
- C/O 5->6 no problems, but the first set of SWRs were at an angle so zoomed across the top right corner of the screen - looked pretty cool, like a comet or something...

Tech:
- Sound issues as per email, very crackly throughout esp on voices
- P1 payout arm tension/looseness as per other email
