Show Reports
Tuesday: REMEMBER ME
QProj: Owen Rye Tproj:Tim Kaufmann
Soundtrack slightly visible on R1, so fiddled with aperture plate and improved a bit. Adjusted stability on both projectors to improve a bit. C/o between 3/4 and 4/5 caught a couple frames of footer before switching, but doubt the audience noticed.
Wednesday: WHIP IT
QProj: Fergus Cooper Tproj: Tristan Bentham
KPMG didn't start (the only thing that might have happened was that I may have pressed esc twice, however I don't think that should have mattered...), so I'm not sure what happened there! Went straight to P&D, so ~15/20s black on screen before picture started. No crap on screen though :-). I dropped an aperture plate on the floor during R1, might have been heard outside. I didn't put lights to off straight away, as the first press of the button didn't do anything, so ~2s late on that! Black shadow down left hand side of screen for start of ads and start of R1 - fixed by moving aperture plate slightly.
Thursday: THE WHITE RIBBON
QProj: Andrew Maddison
Film in not amazing condition (dolby digital sitting on 7/F or 8 error rate and dropping out mostly). Disabled auto digital to stop it flip flopping back and forth between SR and Dolby Digital... just remembered I forgot to put it back so will try to pop in and re-set Auto Digital to on tomorrow. Other than the stability issue on P2 (now partially fixed possibly) and the emergency lighting coming on for a few minutes at about 9.45pm, an absolutely perfect show.
Friday: DATE NIGHT [Early]
QProj: Nikita Shah Tproj: Kath Bates
Focus was adjusted on ads. Only thing to report back was the the ads startup, and C/O 2-3 and 4-5 were disrupted. Each time we tried to select P1 the projector would trip. Turns out that P1 was still selected on the platter from the night before. Didn't realise that even if the platter is off, if it's selected to a projector it'll run as if the platter was being used :/ Apart from that, all good.
Friday: [Late]
QProj: Alex Ware Tproj:Tim Green
Choppy change to kpmg on my part, not sure anyone noticed. Tim did first changeover and missed it by a tiny amount, so we got less than a second of black as I downed it at the second set of cue dots. The longish footers would probably have let us get away without it in retrospect. Reel 5 started OOR as I laced it in a hurry, apart from that Tim did pretty much all the changeovers. (Tim had problems getting it in rack, and time was short by the time I'd got it laced nicely.) Final shutdown was a bit crap on my part, as I forgot the music and curtains for a good 30 seconds. (Everyone was gone by then.)
Sunday: THE GHOST [Early]
QProj: Owen Rye Tproj: Ed McCutcheon
Ed was heading for a perfect show until the head of R6 snapped (turns out that he had spliced on one side between the header and film, but on the other he had spliced on the header between the black and the reference frame - d'oh...). Still, he downed and muted pretty much straight away so only caught a half-second of white on screen (had already switched to P1), and then relaced with film back on screen in just under a minute. Otherwise a great show.
Sunday: [Late]
QProj: Nikita Shah Tproj: Tim Green
So, all was fine apart from ads startup being very slightly OOR (fixed straight away), and then, a wonderful snap. When checking Timbo's lacing on R5, the intermittent was difficult to turn and once it did turn we heard a crunch, and I spotted some torn film on one side of the sprockets by 8 on the head. Dunno if the film was bent when Tim was lacing, he said it was fine, nothing was different, so I dunno if maybe it bent or crunched or something in the early show? I thought I had fixed it with a splice, but when I changed over, it snapped, I must've missed a second tear or something. So shutdown, relaced (black on screen for under 2mins) and replaced a rather crunched header.
Any Other Business:
1. Safety Signs & Vandalism
These signs need correcting but scribbling all over them is not appropriate. COSHH data sheets are too general and omit important parts so need updating.
2. Waste.
2 cans on top of the bin right next to the recycling bin. 1 can (half full) dumped by the platter Please dispose of your waste responsibly and ensure it goes in the bin liner and not down the side.
3. 70mm
Martin has started a Wiki page on 70mm projection, please have a look and can 70mmQproj please add to it.
Fergus, Owen, Tim G, Nikita, Matt Brennan, Omar, Alex and Robert all expressed interested in learning how to projection 70mm film.
4. Top plate of the platter is now working and will be tested during the Thursday show.
5. Sound Trailers
More care must be taken with the sound trailers, make them up properly and don’t just splice them on Keep the cupboard tidy and trailers properly labelled and in the correct place
6. Training
Initial Sessions have taken place for Neil, Ashild, Shirley and Tristan. Please let me know if you can help with ant others as there are more people waiting Please Direct New Trainees to the Projection Wiki-pages so they can do some home study.
Omar would like a refresher training session before his Snaps Test.
Tim K. has had his 2nd Additional and is ready for his Snaps Test. Fergus, Nikita, Alex, Matt Brennan, Martin, Matt Breeze and Owen have all said they may be free to conduct Snaps Tests.
7. Stability
This better since Andrew had a look at the problem on Thursday but still not perfect.
