Show Reports
Tuesday: Dear John
QProj: Owen Rye
Show: - Terrible stability throughout ads, adjusted as best as possible by trailers. - Switched to P2 just a smidge early for R1 so caught 1/2 sec of white hard masking. - R2 v oof due to poor prefocus on P1. - Pulsing black 'shadow' over whole screen for R2 -> gate looked like it wasn't closing fully -> cleaned gate and backplate between R2 and R4 -> improvement for R4+6, but still not perfect -> gate still doesn't close fully, or it might be due to the lamp instead(/also). - Otherwise all gooooood. Oh, except for the shit-tonnes of splices that some muppet cinema before us had decided to insert at various points throughout R6; although, I guess it was just as well that they had re-joined the film after taking out whole feet at a time! Ugly, ugly stuff. Tech: - Run out of foam cleaner (?!?!) - Shite stability - V poor prefocus, definitely on P1, probs P2 too. - Gate doesn't close completely on P1. - Dying lamps. - The splicing block with the thick tape currently on it has a very dull blade at the moment; I'm not convinced it could cut butter in its current state.

Wednesday: Cemetery Junction
QProj:Rachel Crofts Tproj: Omar Omar
Before the film, Omar and I checked the pre-focus on P1; which seemed the same for both Scope and X-wide. And then when we started, the ads were massively OOF! (I do think the lens is catching and not being put in correctly) Thankfully, there was no one in. The rest of the film was uneventful until the c/o reel 3-4 when the first q-dot was missed - I think this was just caused by momentary distraction with the q-dot being at a bad time in the film; every other changeover was fine. Hit down and mute, then changed over - appx. 4-6 seconds of black on screen. Coming soon logo jumped out of rack as the Amelie trailer started with a frame with only 3 sprocket holes.

Thursday: I Am Love
QProj: Robert Gardner
Forgot to change masking on start-up so did it at end of the first ad (Bertolli). The P1 shutter went down during one of the ads (Halo) - thankfully i was right next to the projector at this point, so was able to correct within a couple of seconds. C/O 2 -> 3 - I had a sneezing fit and thought I'd gotten away with it, but apparently the first Qdot was actually the 2nd Qdot, so we had 8 seconds of black on screen :-( Other than that and the fact that one of the Allen keys for the lenses has gone missing, all else went well - for the 18 people in attendance.

Friday [Early]: Pulp Fiction
QProj: Alex Ware Tproj: Tim K.
Minor problems with stability in reels 1 and 2, fixed fairly speedily. Q dots on reel 8 were a pain, and I didn't realise it had both 4lbb and 4SWR, which was lame. They were about a foot apart, so when Tim K started on the 4LBB, we got a teeny bit of reel 9 header on screen. Otherwise a pretty good show, stability wasn't great.

Friday: [Late]
QProj: Nikita Shah
Ads started up OOR (not sure by how many sprockets, it was due to my lacing) but was correct asap. Had the wrong aperture plate in for R2 (as in, not the wrong aspect ratio, but the wrong plate), so the picture projected onto the masking a lot on the right hand side for that reel, it was changed after the C/O though. Also, C/O R2-3, the footer of R2 came on screen for a split second, doubt it was noticed by the audience though). Equipment stuff - P1 started making a squeaking noise at one point, not sure what it was though, I think perhaps play-out tension? Also the stability gradually got worse on both projectors. And the intermittent feels kinda stiff on P1 when you go to set it.

Saturday: Alien
QProj: Fergus Cooper / Alex Ware
Ads started with small black shadow in top left - fixed quickly by fiddling with aperture plate. Alex shut-down near end of R7 - picture back on screen in ~ 10-15 seconds General poor quality of print made for bad viewing especially near the start and end of reels Missing frames in credits very noticeable due to discontinuous text Tech problems: General stability, esp. P1 (can we get the projectors serviced soon please?) Aperture plates (can we start thinking about when we could cut new ones?) Lamp in P1 still looking flickery (I think we need a pair of new lamps) I don't think there's as much difference between 'high' and 'low' lighting as there used to be I think that's all folks!

Sunday [Early]: Jurassic Park
QProj: Matthew Breeze Tproj: Peter Gigg
Esc was pressed twice by accident causing the KPMG video to freeze and the computer to reset to the desktop screen. To avoid further problem we jumped straight to the Ads/Trailers. No missed changeovers however the last reel, reel 7 was not properly rewound during making up. The problem was compounded by a random header been at the foot of R7- peter changed over and we have credits going backwards onscreen. Downed and Rachel and I manually rewound and got it back on screen. Not sure how long the audience was in darkness.

Sunday: [Late]
QProj: Tim Bradley
2 silent slides as I forgot that both P3 buttons don't work. Twats with their heads in front of the projector for aaaaaages, shadows on screen. Forgot how short the footers were so a flash of white on screen after R6. Cut off a bit of speech to compensate for short footer on one of the change overs. All in all it went pretty damn awesome. Didn't drop the five reels on the floor so I consider it a success. The flicker on P2 is worse than P1. A reel also fell apart whilst in use.
