Projectionists Meeting @ 2010-03-01 18:00:00
Week 8 Meeting Minutes
Tuesday – City of God/Men – Tim B/Matt B
CoG R1->3 OOR, possibly due to a making up error
Stability problems on R2, back plate screw not in properly
Wednesday – Sommersturm – Alex PDFQ
He was ready for the DM to let people in at 7.15.
Weird sound before the sound trailer - either the foot of the feature presentation or the head of the sound trailer.
R1 was racked too low (Alex was doing a sound and vision check at the time, but the hard masking was just visible at the top for a while, and the subs were off the bottom for a few lines).
c/o 1-2: oor a tad (subs a little off the bottom, corrected immediately).
Flash of light across the ceiling (Alex's torch).
c/o 2-3: an entire sprocket oor (corrected immediately).
c/o 3-4: good.
c/o 4-5: same as 1-2. (corrected immediately).
On the reels played on P2, the soundtrack was a little visible on screen.
Credits were in focus, though there was no evidence of any adjustment.
sound was louder in some places than in others.
He passed!
Thursday – Pandorum – Sam B & Omar
RUN pressed too early for R1, sound trailer started ½ way through. It would have been better to down and miss the ST completely.
Last 5-10 seconds of R3 2 sprockets OOR on v. dark screen, Q dots in middle of screen.
Friday – The AllNighter
Ads OOR, tiny bit of black at top of screen. V. bad stability
Anchorman OOR at some point
Alignment slide appeared on screen, data proj is left on all the time during the all-nighter for the all-nighter slide-show. Tim controls it, unlikely to ever be a problem again.
Sunday Early – Men who Stare at Goats – Rob & Tim K
A&T v. OOF, Rob waited for Tim to notice so wasn’t fixed immediately.
Sunday Late – Men who Stare at Goats – Nikita & Owen
R1 marginally OOR.
C/O 1->2 missed 1st Q, head/foot on screen
R2 had wrong aperture plate, dowsed to fix.
New Qualification Process
Is not universally liked. It makes the trainee have to wait 24 hours, it seems like an extra layer of beurocracy and belittles the opinions of the qproj present.
It was suggested that:
· The minimum amount of qproj present could be increased to 4/5. This might make it more difficult to set a valid date, and also result in an unnecessary wait.
· There is a minimum level of experience between the qproj present.
· The minors/majors system could be worked at.
· The new system is only used in borderline cases.
It was decided to keep using the new system, preferably with more qproj present, until the minors/majors system can be tried. In the meantime, comments on the show report should be indicative of an opinion on whether the show constitutes a pass/fail.
Tech problems
The lenses are not focussing across the entire screen. This was noticeable during the all-nighter.
The aperture plates are cut too wide.
The OHP which was broken during the allnighter was replaced after a lecturer complained. We haven’t been charged.
Stability problems have been quite prevalent, need to see if resetting the gate tension (not just trying to fix during a show) will help before looking in more detail.
AOB
Owen needs an additional training session, Fergus needs an official first training session.
People need to take more care recycling glass/cans/etc in the Exec office.
The Tech officer election will be held on Wednesday, followed by the Ale Festival.
