Minutes of Projectionists Meeting: 23rd October 06
Present: Rachel, Rob, Martin, James M, Andrew, Tim, Ian, Maria, Ed, Jeffry, Aiden
Apologies: Matt, Amanda, Tom, James C.
Rotas: The Friday early and the Sunday late have yet to be filled.
Weekly Report:
- Syriana (Rachel and Jeffry). P1 was not switched to scope for the start of R2, which looked bad when the lens was changed on screen. It was widely agreed that in situations like this, it looks better if the dowser is shut to minimise what the audience can see.
- The Wind that Shakes the Barley (Rob) – no real problems.
- The Son’s Room. This film did not arrive in time! Rachel reiterated that we should give the Troys at least two days notice to chase films up.
- Ice Age (Early) – Maria and Will – Slight problems with forgetting to lace up DTS, and playing a damaged SRD soundtrack, but the DTS picked up and played fine.
- Ice Age (Late) – Ian. Some problems with disruptive audience members putting hands in front of the picture. While this is largely a FoH issue, sometimes it is worth trying to stop them before it becomes a big problem. James M pointed out that if FoH have to ask them to leave, the film will have to be stopped, which is not a good idea from our perspective. It was generally agreed that if the back row is reserved, this should stop people being able to put their hands in front of the picture.
- Sunday (Early) – Martin and James. There was a problem with the focus caused by the lens not being in correctly. Also, P1 appeared to drop its top loop, although whether this was actually dropped or not present in the first place Martin couldn’t tell, as he did not check the lacing. P1 has dropped a loop before, although we thought that it had been fixed. Tim mentioned that in the Wiki there has been a page added all to do with problems with focusing.
- Sunday (Late) – Maria and Will. Film was ok, although one reel had a roller missed on the SDDS, causing it to be out of sync. Maria also mentioned that there were a number of stretched splices she found in the ads reel, and repeated that it is very important that when the ads are changed, the reel as a whole is checked and maintained.
70mm: There are two reels of 70mm yet to be made up. Martin will supervise Rob in making up a reel on Tuesday. The remaining reel is free for anyone who wishes to make it up. The conversion will start at 2.30 on Wednesday, and we will hopefully be finished in time to have dinner before the film. James M reminded all DM’s that the DM meeting was at 6pm, so we’d have to work around that!
Tech: Martin asked whether anyone had any further thoughts on the oil he and James found on Sunday night. No one did, but we speculated that if the dashpots were leaking we should find out before the 70mm!
