Projectionists Meeting @ 2012-10-08 18:13:00
Monday 08/10/12 (Autumn week 2) 18:13 SSL
1. Welcome and Apologies for Absence
Present: Enrik N (Chair), Max H, Neil A, Georgie R, Fergus C, Andy M, Yeng S
In attendance: Alex P
Apologies: Ed M, Rob G, Tim G, R. H, Rob M,
2. Technical Officer’s Report
Rob had to unfortunately sent apologies for the meeting, but had started a thread on the tech listing referring to the recent focusing issue we've been having. The lenses are no longer pre focused (most likely due to them having slipped in their collar) – they need to be pre focused again ASAP. Unfortunately, L3 will be fairly busy in the next few weeks (likewise Rob is too); hopefully time can be found soon.
Rob also wanted to gather any comments committee members had about the Outdoor Screening. Andy said that there were too many speakers. No other comments were made, though if you do have any, they can be e-mail to Rob.
3. Training
A new process for picking trainees was suggested. Potential trainees will first be invited to an informal interview to primarily assess their availability for fulfilling the crew requirement, their duration at Warwick and their enthusiasm for the scheme. The interviews would be on a one to one basis. There were no objections.
The interviews are provisionally set to be on Saturday (13th) starting from 12:30pm; the projectionists that volunteered to help out (Fergus, Yeng, Georgie and Neil along with Enrik) will be arriving about 12pm. The interviews should be no longer than about 5 minutes. Enrik will finalise/confirm times later on in the week once he has e-mailed all the potential trainees.
Enrik proposed a new policy where the trainee waiting list is only valid for one year, and if an individual in unsuccessful in getting on the scheme during that year but still wants to become a projectionist, they then need to sign-up again the following year. This was agreed upon.
4. Projection Procedure Discussion
A query was raised earlier in the week (by Neil and Georgie) to do with fixing voice sync issues. It was said that voice sync issues are very rare and can either be easily fixed or will require a shutdown. If SDDS/DTS is laced wrong, then voice sync issues can be fixed by going to SRD. If the bottom loop size is ridiculously the wrong size (which it needs to be to affect voice sync), a shutdown will need to occur in order to fix the voice sync and all the other problems this can cause (like stability issues).
5. Cross Committee Crew Status
Enrik and Harry have recently had a discussion regarding the crew status of cross committee members. They have both agreed that the other is allowed to remove the crew status of a member of both committees, if that member doesn’t fulfil any of the possible crew status requirements. This will of course be subject to individual circumstances.
Fergus raised the question that if a member, for example, DM’d 1 show per 3 weeks and projed 1 show per 3 weeks: would they still lose their crew status? Enrik said that he would not be removing the crew status in these (and similar) situations. This was the only concern.
6. Time and Date of next meeting
The first two weeks of term have had a relatively poor attendance to the meetings, so it was proposed by Yeng that the date and/or time be changed. Enrik said he would take the issue to the proj listing and agree on the time and date of the next meeting on the listing.
7. AOB
Enrik N:
- (On behalf of Tim G) There is a social this Wednesday (10th Oct) to go see Taken 2 and have dinner. All members and crew are invited as per usual.
- On Wednesday 10th Oct, L3 will be occupied from 2pm-5pm due to a 3 hour exam. If anyone intends to go into Filmsoc before 2pm, they will need to leave or be prepared to stay in there until at least 5pm.
Andy M:
- We now have speakers again (yay!) and they have been cleaned of any possible asbestos contamination. We still cannot access either of the cupboards at the front of L3, so the speakers have been placed on the right hand side corridor at the bottom of L3. They are chained together and to a radiator; there are four padlocks that share the same key which is where the normal speaker cupboard key is. Each speaker has MDF attached (via screws) to the front of them in order to protect them; the MDF will need to be removed/replaced at the start and end of every show. We should get speaker cupboard use back at some point, but due to it being an HSE notifiable situation, it can’t be done for 2 weeks. It will require 2 days work (Sat morning to Sun afternoon), so not possible in 2 weeks time due to the midnight show, so should happen during week 4/5 weekend.
Meeting Ended at 18:51
