Projectionists Meeting @ 2013-09-30 18:10:00
Projection Meeting Minutes
Week 1 Autumn 2013
Monday 30/09/13 18:10 ROOTES BAR
1. Welcome and Apologies
Present: Georgie R (chair), R.H, Max H, Jethro H
Apologies: Rob G, Fergus C
2. Rotas
Projectionists were reminded that the inactivity tracker is back in commission and, as there are very few qualified projectionists this term, it is crucial to ensure they project two shows every three weeks.
CP also provided future dates which she cannot project, in order that they are covered well in advance. These are:
11th-13th October
1st-3rd November
9th-10th November
Projectionists were also asked to please sign up to shows.
3. Review of the outdoor screening
All present projectionists agreed that the Outdoor Screening was extremely efficient this year. It went well with no tech, focus, sound, or vision problems. Everything was set up with plenty of time to spare and it started, unprecedentedly, promptly on time.
Points to improve on: Taking everything down took a long time, as most people left before/during clean up. The proj box was also left in a state over summer, as much of the Outdoor Screening items were never put away.
4. Technical Officer’s Report
Tech officer not present
5. Projection Procedure Changes/Discussion
None.
6. Trainees
CP explained that with fewer digital shows, the number of trainees would need to be reduced to meet the frequency of 35mm shows, to 3 trainees or fewer. All present agreed with this suggestion.
It was also agreed that interviews should be held following signing up at the Getting Involved meeting. Time and date of these are to follow.
7. Digital Projectionists
With a greater number of digital shows, CP suggested that a new training scheme be created to qualify trainees as purely digital projectionists. It would run concurrently with the traditional training scheme, and all supplementary guides and training documentation have already been provisionally created. These trainees would only be qualified to project digital shows, and would have to undergo similar tech training, ATSs, a snaps test (minus the snaps reel), and a Qualification Show. The scheme would initially take on approximately 6 purely digital trainees.
8. Getting Involved Meeting
Q-projs are warmly invited to the Getting Involved meeting (1pm Sat 5th) to meet prospective projectionists and help answer newbies’ questions and potentially give tours of the proj box. There will also probably be leftover free pizza that needs eating.
9. Socs Fair Stalls
Please sign up to the stalls on Wed 3nd and Thur 3rd Oct from 9.30am-4pm each day. Help would be greatly appreciated.
10. Time and Date of Next Meeting
Monday Week 2 at 18.10 in the Mighty/Dirty Duck (tbc via email)
11. AOB
R.H. asked that projectionists not leave unlabelled/unfinished reels of film on the winding bench or the making up bench. Everyone present vehemently agreed with this statement.
R.H. mentioned that the stool was missing, which is a hindrance to those not tall enough to put reels on the projector. CP vowed to scour the under-floor area to try to find it.
