DM Meeting @ 2007-03-13 18:10:00

DM Meeting Minutes: Tuesday, 13 March 2007

6:10 pm, Rococo

1. Welcome and apologies
DMs present: James McLachlan, Rachel Crofts, Robert Gardner, George Marshall, Pierre Schramm
Trainee DMs present: Helen Coe, Tim Davidson, Eleanor Hutchinson, Nick March
Apologies: Michelle Foy, Martin Mee, Richard Winskill

James welcomed Robert, George and Pierre to the final meeting of term. Others present joined the meeting one minute late.

2. Sell out shows
300 tickets were sold for, and approximately forty people were turned away from, the 9:30 pm showing of Casino Royale. Matters were complicated by trying to find seats for the final ten or so audience members, and by deciding whether to schedule an additional screening. The issues raised by this show were discussed and the following conclusions were reached. Firstly, when L3 nears capacity, announcements should be made to inform the queue that groups of seats might not be available, or that single seats only are available. Secondly, when a sell out is apparent, there should be a policy for scheduling extra shows. This is so that a fully detailed announcement can be made – before the last tickets are sold – to those who will not get tickets. James will raise this point at the next Exec meeting.

3. Arrival times for DMs and trainees
Tim whacked Rachel mid-discussion. The conclusion of this discussion was that the DM and trainee (if there is one) should arrive 40 minutes before the scheduled start time of the film so that the tills are opened in good time. Further to this, if the DM for a show is less than ten minutes late and the trainee wishes to start, then another qualified DM may supervise with the permission of the DM for that show. If the DM for a show is more than ten minutes late, then another qualified DM may take over until the arrival of the DM for that show. The results of an indicative vote were unanimously in favour of following these guidelines. Ultimately, they are just guidelines and common sense should prevail in most situations.

4. New sign for the door
It was proposed that a sign be created to include “no popcorn”. The results of an indicative vote were unanimously in favour of implementing such a sign. James will have the sign ready for next term. Ideas for new slides will be discussed on the forums. George suggested a slide that reads: “No popcorn because we’re bastards.”

5. Date of next meeting
This is to be decided on the DM mailing list.

6. AOB
(i) Andrew has been working on the laptops again and has reinstalled Windows (again). The slave laptops now have just the standalone version of the Union POS system installed. The username is SU399 and the password is the same as before. Eleanor asked what POS stands for, and when told “point of sale”, suggested that it should be changed to “piece of s***”.
(ii) The High Wycombe social will happen over the vacation. Anyone interested should check the forums for details.
(iii) Nick encourages everyone to watch ‘Shaun the Sheep’ on CBBC at 3:45 pm on weekdays. It’s made by Aardman Animations so it must be good…
(iv) George commented that the meeting had been far too long and complicated, and that there were too few AOBs.
