3. Show Reports

---

Psycho – 11/05/2023
Q-Proj: Max

Film was very crusty, old and tapey. One changeover was missed as the ends were all pretty chopped off. As Cinema Now was being played before the film, there was some concern that it might cause issues with racking and focus, and as it was in a different aspect ratio, but in the end it didn't cause that many issues.

KH: Objection - old crusty print was younger than Kieran.

MK: Ok, not old but still crusty. Young crusty.

No show report.

John Wick: Chapter 4 (Early) – 12/05/2023
Q-Proj: A lot of them; T-Proj: Josh

This was a Q-show, Josh qualified!
JH: "Fine."
Fader was turned down to 6.2 as film was quite loud, usual stuff was broken - iLight and lift.

John Wick: Chapter 4 (Late) – 12/05/2023
Q-Proj: Daniel/Sueda

Daniel setup the show and Sueda packed úp.
DK: Potentially too loud. "Show was fine, I think."

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (Early) – 13/05/2023
Q-Proj: Eric; T-Proj: Marnie

Had to do a shutdown show. It was a very busy show!
It was a good shutdown! P3 was pressed slightly late at 17:32.
Otherwise, the show was fine and everything else was good. This was also the last show we showed Cinema Now -- unfortunately, we didn't get his recorded message in time, though!

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (Late) – 13/05/2023

Fine, we did Eurovision in the office!
EL: Sweden shouldn't have won
DK: Croatia ftw.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves – 19/05/2023
Q-Proj: Zuzanna; T-Proj Tomas

Show seemed to be fine. It appeared that there was some trouble with the HDMI box before the film.
The lights "[h]ad to be lowered automatically"??? Visual confusion from Kieran.

10 Things I Hate About You (Early) – 20/05/2023
Q-Proj: Liv; T-Proj: Zuzanna

LL: Something actually happened on this show. Around the middle of the film, P2 started screaming loudly, and there was very shaky picture all over the screen. Some wiggling about was done, but the picture was still shakey and screamy. With Kieran's advice, tension on the intermittent shoe (the flappy handle thing that holds film onto the intermittent) was slightly released and it stopped screaming, but was still very stressful.

Previously, the intermittent shoe tension was far too loose, so it needed to be forcefully shut closed. At some point between terms 2 and 3, it was tightened, but far too tight and the film was very angry. Not sure how this has happened, but this is concerning and everyone should be careful.

KH: Took advice from PPT, sounds like someone has been tinkering, but not sure who. Will ask PPT to come over take a look over the summer.
LL: There was one very shaky start of reel, but otherwise film was fine.

10 Things I Hate About You (Late) – 20/05/2023
Q-Proj: Kieran; T-Proj: Eric

First 35mm show. Used a tilde in the show report!
Changeover 1 felt like an aptitude test; pressed motor cue on time, but pressed P2 too early as there were multiple cues and I pressed P2 at the wrong set of cue dots, resulting in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 being displayed to the audience momentarily.

On changeover 2, the dowser was forgotten, but Kieran stepped in and opened it - this resulted in a bit of fluster, and a late P2 press.

Changeovers 3 and 4 were fine.

On the last changeover, the delay between the last set of cues on pressing P2 was a bit too generous, resulting in a momentary glimpse of black.

Rye Lane – 26/05/2023
Q-Proj: Daniel; T-Proj: Sam

Yeah, was fine. Usual stuff broken.

Suzume (Early) – 27/05/2023
Q-Proj: Kieran, Eric, Daniel, Liv; T-Proj: Marnie

Fine, lights weren't turned down for trailers and 6ch trailers were played in 2ch. Everything else was fine, the film was good!.

---

Suzume (Late) – 27/05/2023
Q-Proj: Zain; T-Proj: James Patt

Lights were turned on at the wrong point, but James tried his best considering the credits start and stop 5 times. Blame the director.

The Edge of Seventeen – 02/06/2023
Q-Proj: Sueda; T-Proj: James P

The GOTG trailer was played in 3D and not in 2D, meaning that the trailer looked wonky and shaky.
JP: Why was it there in the first place?
EL: Some incorrect trailers are ingested for training purposes - Q-proj should pick up on this.

Hot Fuzz (Early) – 03/06/2023
Q-Proj: Liv; T-Proj: Zuzanna

It was mostly very good. Another problem with the P2 intermittent which was fun. Liv was outside watching the changeover but rushed back in shortly afterwards. Between reels 5 and 6, something happened which meant that the projector dropped the bottom loop and the top loop was massive.

Zuzanna ran the motor and heard the crunching noises, but downed projector and got it back up and running as soon as possible. The film was 2 perforations out of rack, and very wobbly.

Projector started making horrible noise as motor was running. Not certain whether that was projector having a tantrum, or whether there was an issue in lacing.

---

Hot Fuzz (Late) – 03/06/2023
Q-Proj: Kieran; T-Proj: Eric

Film was played at 6.5 as 7.0 was quite loud at the start of the early.

Missed motor cues for some unknown reason on changeovers 1 and 6. They were just missed - probably distracted by the film. Projector change cues were not missed though; just the motor cues.

Sound trailer was out of rack as the racking was reset after the issue with the projector on the early, but this was fixed.

4. Tech Officer's Report
- Tech Officer's PhD submission date is today! Good luck and congratulations!

5. Proj Procedure Changes
- When ingesting trailers - please give a heads up to other projectionists in Slack, just in case incorrect trailers (such as 3D trailers) have been ingested by accident, so that people know to look out for them.
- Try to avoid showing 12A trailers on U/PG rated films, where possible. If you are showing a 12A trailer, it would be nice to give a heads up to the DM on show, just in case.
- If there are multiple sets of adverts ingested, please use the adverts that correlate to the current date period. The date in the name of the adverts is when the adverts are valid _from_. For example, today is the 5th of June. If you had ads that had a start date of 02062023 and ads that have a start date of 06062023, the ads dated 02062023 should be used as those are the ads for the period 2nd June - 6th June.
- When there are no trailers for the remainder of the term, the "coming next term" transition can be used. There are a few trailers that have been ingested in advance for next term, such as Elemental, Asteroid City, Barbie, Oppenheimer, Marvels, etc - please feel free to use if there are no age-appropriate trailers remaining for the rest of the term. EG: Can confirm the MI7 trailer is good.

6. TADONM
No meeting in W8 as going home for that week. Next meeting will be in W9 - lettucemeet will go out whenever.

7. AOB
- Happy birthday!
- The exec has approved FilmGuard, so all film will be filmguarded.
- In general, be careful with slamming doors open. It has been noted that DMs/stewards have been slammming the office door open immediately after opening the corridor door; if you notice this, please give a gentle nudge to people to not do this.
- KH: "See it, say it, sorted."

8. Trainees

### Trainee Tracker Changes
- A new trainee tracker checklist has been created. The idea is that the checklist will be added to the first post in all trainee trackers for existing trainees, and things can be ticked off the list as of and when things have been covered or the Q-proj is happy that trainee is confident in that thing.
- Max made suggestion that trainee tracker could be made more like the DM checklist with covered, demonstrated, confident with checkboxes in a table. After further discussion it was determined that this isn't really necessary for projectionists as there are a lot of menial items on the checklist that can literally just be covered once and checked off.
- Before a trainee show, the Q-proj on show should use the checklist to see what things have not been covered to see what could potentially be covered on that show. Then, once the show is done, the Q-proj should go back through the list, check off things that have been covered/things that they are confident the trainee knows how to do, before writing a show report as usual, outlining what things have been covered, and what could potentially be covered on future shows.
- Checklist has gone through many iterations of review - general consensus is that the checklist can now be implemented and started to be used. For any additions or suggestions, please let Eric know and updates will be distributed.

Meeting ended at 18:24.
